FMX Applications

Produced Water (Fracking Flowback)

Typically produced water cannot be directly reused in the fracking process without treatment, so it must be hauled offsite at great expense. A client was interested in investigating the potential of using the FMX to treat the produced water for reuse as fracking water.

Metals Removal from Produced Water

Client: Petroleum Processor
Goal: Remove metals and hardness from produced water
Membrane: NF
Average Flux: 19  liter / (m2 • hr)  [11 GFD]
Note: Second pilot test is scheduled to adjust feed stream to increase metals rejection

Oceanic Groundwater Treatment

Client: Energy Generation Plant, U.S.A.
Goal: Solids removal from seeping groundwater
Membrane: UF
Average Flux: 250  liter / (m2 • hr)   [147 GFD]
Note: Full scale flow rate is 750 GPM (170 m3/hr)

Sulfate Removal from AMD Water

Client: Petroleum Processor
Goal: Remove sulfate and conductivity from acid mine drainage (AMD) water
Membrane: NF
Average Flux: 119  liter / (m2 • hr)  [70 GFD]
Note: Excellent sulfate rejection enables permeate to be reused onsite
